And the Root of all Evil is……

Bet you thought the answer was money, right? Isn’t that how that age-old expression goes? “Money is the root of all evil”.  Well,  whoever it was that coined that phrase was simply looking to place blame somewhere other than himself or herself. And haven’t we talked about his before? When you point the finger at someone else (or “something” else) there are 3 fingers pointing back at you…

What many of you may not be aware of is that this past Spring I began my studies in Metaphysical Sciences through the International Metaphysical Ministries, which is affiliated with the University of Metaphysics and the University of Sedona. This body of work provides me with a deeper level in understanding relationships…as I believe the path to self-discovery is through our relationship with money. In addition to the study of Metaphysics, I am also working through “A Course in Miracles” (ACIM), which some of you may be familiar with. And this brings me to a passage I read the other night and the inspiration for today’s post.

Would you agree that you desire peace? Peace of mind, peace with money, peace among each other? Then what is it that holds us back from experiencing peace? One word. Judgement. Everyday we judge. We judge one another…in some way, shape, or form. We judge circumstances, situations, and yes, money. And when we judge another, or some “thing”, we judge ourselves.

“When you laugh at someone, it is because you have judged him as unworthy. When you laugh at yourself you must laugh at others, if only because you cannot tolerate the idea of being more unworthy than they are. All this makes you feel tired because it is essentially disheartening….I have spoken of different symptoms, and at that level there is almost endless variation. There is, however, only one cause for all of them: the authority problem. This is “the root of all evil”. Every symptom the ego makes involves a contradiction in terms, because the mind is split between the ego and the Holy Spirit.” ~ACIM

In simple terms, this means we have a choice…we can choose fear or faith. When we perceive and act from a place of fear, we get tired, both physically and mentally. I know that nearly every time I have experienced a drop in income, I can trace it back to an exhaustive attempt to exert control over something, my business…anything. I let my ego, my fear, become the “authority” figure. In order for me to create peace, I had to let go of my belief that my business had to follow a certain structure and instead, embrace a ‘new structure’ which is alignment with Faith–deciding what I want and allowing inspiration to dictate my next steps.  I also equate this to being raised to believe that the only way you will secure a steady income and achieve success is by obtaining a college degree..or better yet, a Masters or Doctorate. I’m not saying that’s wrong or right but, I’d like to know who “authored” that to be so? Fear or Faith? There are endless possibilities to finding success and wealth…but, there can be only one “Author” that can bring you peace…and that is Spirit. Call It whatever you like, Spirit, God, Source, Universe, Divine…the meaning is the same. Choosing from a place of faith is likened to allowing your heart to lead.

So how about giving money a break? After all, money isn’t the root of all evil, the authority problem is–so if you desire peace, then choose Faith as the Author of your life.

  1. Too funny, commenting on a different topic altogether on facebook I said, “We want peace and the reason we don’t have it is because we’d rather judge.” Keep up the great work!

    1. Yes…that IS funny! Although one of the surest ways for Ego to keep its hold is through judgement of and towards anything! Arghhh! Well, here’s to inner-work, right? Lol! Thanks Amy Jo! 🙂
