The title of this post came to me in a “daydream”…I was having a conversation with one of my friends in California. I can’t even recall the details of the conversation, only that I said to her, “you can’t assign a number to abundance…”.
The term ‘abundance’ is one that is used quite frequently today…a word that is becoming more mainstream, a part of our everyday vocabulary. What I have noticed though is that everyone seems to have a different definition of what it means. We all have the ability to look up the word ‘abundance’ in the dictionary, yes? Question is…does Webster’s definition of ‘abundance’ resonate within you? What does ‘abundance’ look like–sound like–FEEL like for you?
All too often words like ‘abundance’, ‘rich’, ‘wealth’ are immediately connected with money. I’m not saying that money isn’t part of it but, is it ALL of it? If you have all the money you need, want, and desire, are you ‘abundant’, ‘rich’, ‘wealthy’? Are you guaranteed peace and happiness if you have money? Or is there more…could there be more…shouldn’t there be more?
In my opinion, you can’t assign a number to abundance. There is no magic number. Money is an external resource…and it’s not the only resource available. What about that which comes from within? Your ‘inner resources’? If you immediately connect money with your sense of abundance and wealth, then I urge you to dig deeper. What is it about money that makes you feel abundant and wealthy?
And remember, money itself and its exchange takes different forms…sometimes we receive what we need (or want) through gifts. A neighbor may bring her friend a homemade cooked meal because she knows that her friend struggles with having enough time to cook for her own family. The friend experiences abundance through the generosity of her neighbor. The neighbor experiences abundance by recognizing what she has and then by sharing with her friend.
Are you familiar with the expression “Manna from Heaven”? A great story and message…a sudden happening that brings good fortune. Perhaps abundance is felt and experienced through the ‘unexpected’ and the ‘unexplainable’?
Abundance may not even take the form of the physical…it could simply be a perspective. A belief…how you perceive things to be. I know folks that have very little in their bank accounts and yet they are happy. Each day is filled with peace and joy. In other words, they feel abundant. What they feel is what they live. Abundance is a state of mind…a state of ‘being’.
This past weekend I received an energy session at my friend’s house. As she was finishing the session I could hear a song in the other room playing on the TV. The song was “Pennies from Heaven”. I laughed out loud…what a perfect way to end an energy session– as well as this blog post. As you read beneath the lyrics, paying close attention to its message, hopefully you will hear something different. Something closer to the truth about abundance–and about you.
“Oh every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven. Don’t you know each cloud contains, pennies from heaven. You’ll find your fortune fallin’ all over town, be sure that your umbrella is upside down. Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers. If you want the things you love, you must have showers. So when you hear it thunder, don’t run under a tree. There’ll be pennies from heaven, for you and me.”
So what is your perception of ‘Abundance’? It is after all, what you make of it. And what you make of it is your life.
So true, Christine. Your post reminded me of the wealth I have in my life. Much of our sense of wealth derives from an appreciation for what we do have–be it little in the eyes of others. Thanks for the window on my own abundance. BTW, I’ve facebooked and tweeted you. I hope a lot of people read your excellent post.
Hi Denis!
Wow—coming from an incredibly gifted writer himself, thank you! I’m so happy that you enjoyed my post…and shared it! 🙂 Much appreciation Denis!
